Opening Our Front Doors to the Community

Tomorrow the doors to the new connector finally open to our community with an event we are calling Connected: A Community Celebration. The schedule for this celebration is:
  • 10:30 AM - 11:45 AM: Worship Service
  • 11:45 AM - 12:00 PM: Ribbon Cutting
  • 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM: Food, Inflatables, Face Painting, etc.
We have a special guest with us, Heather Jones Skaggs, with whom you can explore the history of our community. She is the author of the book, "Images of Bluff Park" and "Images of Hoover".

Feel free to dress casually Sunday morning so you don't have to change clothes before enjoying the outdoor activities and have your children bring bathing suits and towels so they can enjoy the waters slides. Meal tickets will be available for purchase for $6.00 in the foyer and other locations during the event.

We are almost there. Preparations have been made today for this exciting event so please come join us as we open our new front door, and as we worship together, celebrate together, and build relationships with new friends, neighbors, and local businesses. Below is a sneak peak behind the scenes.

Fixtures, Fixtures, Fixtures

We're a little over two weeks away from the grand opening and most everything structural has been completed. Now the fixtures—welcome desks, coffee bar, pendant lights, sconces—are being or have been installed. The places our guests and member alike will visit on the way into the service are being built. The check-in desk for the nursery and preschool area is in place. All these fixtures, even the lighting, will create a warm and welcoming environment for those who enter through our new front door, or whichever door, for that matter.

We have a welcome center near our new front door.

Parents will check children in here for the Nursery & Preschool Ministry.

The changing table and sink in the nursing mothers' room.

The coffee bar outside the sanctuary.

The main light fixture hangs from the ceiling of the "tower".

These sconces provide decorative lighting for the stairway.

The rails on the top floor appear to go through the stone.

The rail on the stairways is installed.

The finished floor by our new front door.

Outside our front door.

Another angle outside our front door.

As an aside, many have asked about the large metal rolling doors outside the sanctuary. Those are fire doors that, once the connector is opened, will remain open unless there is a fire. The double doors in between the two rolling doors will also remain open unless there is a fire. These double doors will allow someone to get out once the large metal rolling fire doors descend.
